About Me

For as long as I can remember, I've always wanted to take pictures. My sisters often made the mistake of leaving their disposable Kodaks by the door, only for me to find them with two or three photos left. I'd sit and stew for hours on what to capture with these last few slots of film. I'd walk room to room and by every tree in the neighborhood, looking through the viewfinder and contemplating what subjects might encourage my sisters to let me keep the prints, which they'd only learn existed after having the roll developed. Each wind of these cameras brought joy to my soul, and each click of the shutter brought a lesson in finality that was always well worth the risk of taking heat from Meagan and Shannon.

As I grew up, and disposable cameras faded away, my passion for photography took the backseat to other endeavors. More than a decade later, I found myself at an electronics store on black Friday. Absent of any of the items I'd woken up at 4am to purchase, I was eager to find something… anything to make the trip worthwhile. I slowly perused each aisle, careful to avoid the chaos ensuing around me, before finding the camera section. I grabbed an associate, had them unlock the sliding glass door, and swiftly accompanied him to the register where I made what might've been the quickest purchasing decision of my life. The moment I got in the car, like a child with a new toy, I unboxed my first "real" camera, and the joy was back.

In the time since, I've enjoyed every minute on this side of the lens. Photography has pushed me to shed my comfort zone, encouraged me to always seek more, and allowed me to express an outlet creatively I otherwise wouldn't have the ability to express. A mentor once told me a story about her scuba trip on the Great Barrier Reef. En route to the reef, she started up a conversation with a couple of the other divers. "So what do you do?" they asked. Upon answering, she returned the question. One responded "I'm a scuba diver and a traveler." The other's answer was quite similar. A bit taken aback, she probed for some context. The divers shared that in their culture, folks choose to identify with the activities and tasks that bring them joy and fulfillment, and while they sometimes overlap with, don't have to align with your actual occupation.

So…I'm Michael Berrios, and I'm a photographer. Whether it's your brand's new watch release or a more detailed look at your craftsmanship, I can't wait to capture your joy through mine. Thank you for visiting the site!
